Victorian Scrapbook. An exceptional collection of American advertising and trade cards, circa 1880. Housed in a scrapbook of the period (with a patent date of 1876 on the rear cover). 14 inches (35 cm). The cards and other ephemera are mounted to both sides of about 20 leaves. There are approximately 350 items, many of which are of exceptional graphic appeal. The scrapbook is worn but still attractive externally, but has separated at the front joint. Three leaves have split; the paper is extremely brittle.
There are a series of charmingly funny cards relating to baseball, as well as many pertaining to patent medicines, etc.
