The period appears to be 18th or early 19th century. Condition sound; some frame rubbing with some corresponding areas of restoration around the edges. Visible stretcher marks, including a diagonal mark across each upper corner. There is a narrow area of restoration running along six inches of the vertical stretcher mark in the lower left quadrant. Some shadows have been reinforced on the face. There is a thin streak of restoration running diagonally through the sitter's left eye.
