Ming Dynasty, Jiajing Six-Character Mark and of the Period
The compressed ovoid form set on a splayed foot, painted on each side with two confronting five-clawed dragons contesting a flaming pearl above tumultuous waves and stylized rockwork, amidst stylized cloud wisps, flanked by loop handles with molded dragon heads, all between diaper and scrolling foliate bands, base with a Jiajing six-character mark. Length through handles 9 inches.
Pinholes in glazed base, light surface scratching to exterior and light wear. Glaze gaps on handles. Some light discoloration to rim in the glaze surface. Interior with visible seamline.
