Lot 32[COBURN, ALVIN LANGDON]
BELLOC, HILAIRE. London. London and New York: Duckworth/Brentano's, 1909. First edition. Publisher's green calf over gray gilt-lettered boards. 19 x 12 inches (40.5 x 31 cm); [24 pp.], with 20 (of 20) very fine hand-pulled photogravures tipped to gray paper sheets. Spine deteriorated, joints separating (a common defect with this book; poor quality leather was used), but the plates are in fresh condition, the text clean.
Coburn, who had studied when younger with the painter and printmaker Arthur Wesley Dow, prepared the plates for this work himself, and though he did not himself print them (other than proofs), he carefully oversaw the printing process.
Sold for $2,500
