Lot 374George III Sterling Silver Covered Entree Dish

Of shaped rectangular form, the stepped cover engraved with the Royal Arms of George III to one side, the Arms of Ouseley impaling Whitelocke For Sir Gore Ouseley, 1st Bt. of Hall Barn Park, Buckinghamshire, the cover with a heraldic crest finial. Length 10 7/8 inches (27.5 cm), total approximately 70 ounces.

A noted Orientalist, Sir Gore Ouseley (1770-1844) served as a diplomat in India, Persia and Russia, being named Ambassador Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to the Persian Court in 1810 where he cemented British influence in the region. Engraved with the Royal arms, this entree dish likely formed part of his ambassadorial service.
A covered entree dish from this service was sold at Parke-Bernett, New York in 1969. A pair of meat platters also by Paul Storr and dated 1809 from this service was sold at Christie's New York, May 22, 2008 lot 144.
