These two portraits appear to belong to a series depicting the ducal House of Burgundy. Phillip the Bold (Philippe le Hardi, 1342-1405) was the grandfather of Philip the Good (Philippe le Bon, 1395-1467), to whom Isabella of Portugal (1397-1471) was married in 1430. She became the mother of her husband's successor, Charles the Bold (Charles le Temeraire, 1433-1477).

The date of these works is not clear. They may be as early as the 17th century, but some surface appears to be later. Opinons sought have varied greatly.
Glue relined. Dense varnish layer showing little under UV light. Areas of restoration; contours reinforced.
