Contemporary half calf over boards. 17 1/2 x 11 7/8 inches; 28 double-page maps, including Melish's map of the United States, and charts, all with hand color. Binding worn and stained with loss to extremities, endpapers foxed, occasional minor foxing and staining throughout.
With four maps of America, including the map of the United States by John Melish, showing a detailed view of the Missouri River and the headwaters of the Columbia River based on information from Lewis and Clark's expedition, "Arkansaw territory," the new state of Missouri (shown with a straight western border), the "Northwest Territory," and the "Missouri territory."
