Thomas Craven was a noted art critic who promoted the American Regionalist. He was a champion of Benton's work and the two were close friends. Among his most well known publications are Modern Art: The Men, The Movements, The Meaning, A Treasury of Art Masterpieces: From the Renaissance to the Present Day, and Thomas Hart Benton: A Descriptive Catalogue of the Works of Thomas Hart Benton with an Examination of the Artist and His Works.
