The Artist
Abraham W. Geller
Thence by descent to the current owner

Abraham W. Geller was a prominent New York architect and a champion of modernist design and fine art. He often commisioned artists for site specific works in his commercial buildings such as the now closed Cinema 1 and 2 located at Third Avenue and 59th Street in New York City. Mr. Geller's family believes he aquired this work from the artist when possibly discussing using a Fonseca mosaic in one of his projects. No correspondence survives to corroborate this, nor were any collaborations between the artist and the architect ever completed.

Sold for $12,500
Estimate $15,000-20,000

The frame is worn on face with oxidation on face, at corners and on hardware. The tile is set in concrete. There are 1/4 x 1/2 inch chips at corners of the concrete on the reverse.
