Lot 35[NEW YORK-PICTORIAL MAP]
ZAIDENBERG, A[RTHUR]. Downtown District of Manhattan. Nieuw Amsterdam and New York. New York: Gardner Osborn, 1938. Color-printed map, framed, Sheet measures 24 1/4 x 36 1/4 inches (61.75 x 92 cm). A few small losses and short closed tears to margins, a closed three-inch tear at left-hand side of map, thin area of toning in margins, laid down on foamboard, altogether a bright and attractive copy.
Arthur Zaidenberg's pictorial map of downtown New York City shows the area from City Hall to Battery Park from an aerial perspective. It whimsically juxtaposes the modern city's skyscrapers with historical landmarks and events from the city's distant colonial past, resulting in a map that is as amusing and attractive as it is educational.
