A Map of a Parcel of Land near the Hospital in the City of New [York] Part of the Estate of the late Reverend Henry Barclay deceased. Manuscript map in ink on two joined sheets, circa 1770s(?). 17 x 21 inches (44 x 52 cm). The map is backed. Losses along extremities, dust soiling, later markings within the image, the two sheets joined with loss of the word York in title.

An early map with a rare reference to the "Negroes Burial Ground" near the Fresh Water Pond, lands first developed around this time. Reverend Henry Barclay (1712-1764) was the oldest son of Thomas Barclay, the first rector of St. Peters Anglican Church. Henry Barclay served in the dual role of rector and missionary, requiring him to preach in English, Dutch, and Mohawk. He was instrumental in translating the Book of Common Prayer into the Mohawk language. Leaving the frontier, in 1746 Barclay was named rector of Trinity Church in New York. These lands were inherited by his wife and children upon his death in 1764. The map shows Broad Way with Anthony Street (later Duane), Thomas (later Pearl) and Catherine Street (later Worth).
