Marie de Brimeau (ca. 1550-1605) was the wife of Charles III de Croÿ, who commissioned the Albums de Croÿ as a record of his family's holdings (see lot xxx). Estranged from her husband, Marie lead an independent life, pursuing her avid interest in botany and horticulture,. She was an active member of the intellectual circle of Carolus Clusius, a noted professor of botany at Leiden University.
